Hi All,
This is my first post,I thought I might take this opportunity to say Hello to all members and lurkers.
I Like both telescopes and binoculars for Astronomy, most of which have been bought off Ebay.
I have a few telescopes and Too many Binos, I mainly use a pair of Barska 15x70 Binos mounted on a tripod, and a Tasco (Vixen) 125mm telescope on a wooden polaris mount.
Nice to be a member here.
Regards to all.John

Hi Steve,
Thanks for the welcome,I realised I should have posted my first message in the "general" threads, but too late now.
Sorry Mate I cant let you have the Binos,I am in love with them.
I bought them off Ebay a few months ago,for $81.00,Brand new.
They have Bak 4 prisms, and are multicoated,m42 in these things is incredible.I haven't seen them for sale in Australia as yet,I also have a pair of 11x70s(bought earlier),and these blow them away.
Cheers Steve.John

Hi John! Welcome to IIS.

That's just nice, Steve. John walks in and three seconds later you try to steal his binos. Have some class and at least get him drunk before you take advantage of him :P

Hi Terry,
Thank you also for the welcome,no need for Steve to get me drunk I can do that all by myself,Well not really I love a drink, in fact I make my own beer and Bourbon etc,but as an insulin dependant diabetic getting drunk is not advised, although I have been known to be overly sociable at times.
reminds me of a conversation my wife and I of 30+ years often have,
I say "what would you like for tea love"
She says "I'm easy"
I say," I know that, but whats for tea"
Hope I havent offended anybody.
Cheers Terry.John

Welcome Johnno!

How did you hear about us?

Another hunter valley/newcastle area member, great to see.. we'll have quite a contingent for the newcastle area IceInSpace star party!

Sounds like some nice binos you've got.. i love my 11x70's and looked through some 20x80's recently and they were so clear and bright. There's nothing quite like scanning the milky way wiht binoculars.

Welcome again, I hope you enjoy your stay. Be sure to bring some friends too! :)

:welcome: to the forum Johno. Binos are great. I use a pair of 12x50 Pentax all the time. There good to whip out when there's limited time for observing or to look in between clouds or when too drunk too setup the telescope. Enjoy your time here. :)

Hi All,
Firstly, thank you all for a very warm welcome,Its nice to be a part of such a friendly group,I am sure I will enjoy this forum very much.
I found the forum by accident,I was browsing the Astronomy on line forum, which I had also only just discovered, and read a reference to this one,so I decided to join this one as well.
I use binoculars a lot mainly because I love looking at things the right way up,and also I love wide field views.
I have about 12 pair of binos, from 9x25 nikons to the 15x70 Barskas.as well as a couple of telescopes.
I am also a bit of a tinkerer, and have made some binocular mounts etc, which I will post a picture of when I figure out how,
so to
Mike,Mick,Tony,Jonathon,David and Phil,I once again thank you for the warm welcome.Kind Regards.John
p.s Apologies if I missed anyone

Hi All,
Hopefully,I have attached a photo of my Barskas with home made double "L" bracket.
one part of the L holds the binos, and the top L holds a red dot finder, the whole unit is mounted on a focal camera tripod, bought off ebay for about $25.00,
If anyones interested glad to answer any questions.

Welcome John.
Everyone seems to want your 15x70, i will settle for your 11x70 . :)

johnno

Hi Peter,
Thank you for the welcome,
Yes, I like the 11x70s mainly because they have a slightly wider field of view around 5deg,the 15x70s are about 4.4deg.if you do get a pair of fairly large binos, put a red dot finder on top of them, makes it real easy to find things.
Andrews,in sydney has now got some really cheap binos, for eg 11x70s now around $149.00,and 15x70s not much dearer,I think I paid $219.00 for my 11s,so prices have dropped a lot.
Cheers for now,Regards.John

Hi Geoff,
I think at that price you couldn't go wrong, they look exactly like mine,I believe a lot of these binos are made by Kummning optical in China, and have different badging for different retailers, fully broadband multicoated is about as good as it gets,as long as the prisms are bak-4.
