I've reprocessed my M8 data from this year using PixInsight and I'm much happier with it now.
Well mostly happy, the stars were pretty fat in the data and hence quite fat in the final image. I think I captured this during a week of really bad seeing as the FWHM was around 4 to 5 for these images :(

Yeah like this Hugh, a nice balance of detail and dynamic range and the colour is nice too, good job
Mike
PI processing brought out some great core detail. Well done!

Details seem good so the seeing can't have been too terrible. There are some good tools in PI for dealing with fat stars too

Very very nice Hugh, love the colour and detail.
I've just started using the Masked Stretch tool to soften my bloated stars, does a great job I think. The "Morphological Transformation" tool will also reduce star sizes. Masked Stretch Tutorial (http://www.harrysastroshed.com/pixinsight/pixinsight%20video%20files/2014%20pix%20vids/maskedstret/maskedstret.mp4)
Also try the "Dark structure enhance" script with a mild setting. It can really make the dark dusty bits pop. Its in "Script - Utilities" from memory  (I'm at work ATM)

Thanks Bo!
Cheers Mike, it's always tricky to get the balance right with SHO, so I'm glad I'm on the right track :)
Thanks John, yeah I was a bit surprised with how much detail was lurking in there!
Thanks Rick, I'll definitely be looking into this :)
Cheers Rod, I'll check that out.
Thanks Brett :D

Nice colour balance. I prefer your effort to my SHO lagoon - might need to reprocess mine.
