Charles Duke came to our school!

Today i was given the incredible opportunity to spend my afternoon with a man who left the face of the Earth and touched the rock and soil of another celestial body, the Moon. Charles Duke, of the Apollo 16 came to our school and spoke to us at an Assembly, where he then had a discussion and chat to a small group of selected students and teachers with an interest in space flight and Astronomy. To be able to have the time to ask questions and learn about the dangers and amazing experiences of his journey, was nothing short of fascinating and amazing. Today was a special day for our school and for myself and everyone else who was filled with his wisdom and bright attitude towards life. Thank you sir, for giving humans a thought to "Dream Big".

Yes, those guys are heroes. They took incredible risks and pulled off amazing exploits.

I hope their exploits are not "one-off" journeys. I hope that we can return to where they went. And go further !

Congratulations Sean, Charlie is an amazing, humble and very generous man and I'm sure that the experiences he shared with you and your schoolmates will stay with you for a long time? On Wednesday this past week Charlie also spoke at my school and my year 12 physics students loved every minute of his presentation. As Charlie advised Sean - dream big - who knows where you'll go and what you'll accomplish if you do! :-)

Charles visited St Pauls in Warragul this afternoon. The kids came home quite excited with their favourite story being about Charles falling over backwards on the Moon and worrying about damage to his suit. Nice to have some 'sciencey' heroes floating around.
