My first real astroimaging crack today - the sun and sunspot 904. D70 at prime focus through ED80.... I can see a Barlow in my near future! And probably a PST, given the great prominence images being posted today. None of the detail of Dennis' fantastic shots of late I'm afraid.....

Mate, that is great for a first shot! Nice and sharp (just what I have trouble achieving!:P )

Well done!

Hi Lee

That is an excellent image, let alone for a first attempt. I also like the presentation, with the full disc and the enlarged, more detailed smaller pane. Heaps of detail resolved in the region.

Well done.

Initially the shots were dim.... really dim, took me 5 minutes and a bunch of bad shots to realise the Hartmann mask was still on the objective!
A little post-processing of the raws brought out some nice detail in the end.

Ahah, welcome to the club. I once hand guided a 40 minute exposure of Eta Carina....with the Hartman mask on....using my 35mm film camera.

Cheers
