View Full Version here: : Finding the right remote
Hi Guys, I was given an 18 month old BAUHN 56inch TV which was bought from Aldi, however the remote is missing, so can i just buy a universal remote and all should be well, or are there some other things i need to know.
Maybe someone has a remote for one of these that do not use
Suggestions most welcome.

Hiya Leon. I may stand corrected but I think most universal remote controls need to be "taught" from the other remote control first to learn the frequency it works on. This was the case when I was in an electrical retail store about 15 years ago. Genuine spares are very expensive too so if you can get one (universal) that works without being taught, you're on a winner. Sorry for the vagueness. Maybe ask Dick Smith or Jaycar or someone like that.

Hey Leon...
I have the same brand TV in the 42-inch, and my remote just died. I replaced it with a Bauhn Universal remote. I got mine from E-bay, but being an Aldi brand, they do show up there from time to time. The Bauhn universal remote in particular has presets relating directly to the Bauhn TV's, so you don't need to 'Teach' it the functions. I'm not sure if the other brands of Universal Remote would have the preset for that particular brand..

Leon, have a look at the "check compatibility" link on http://www.logitech.com/en-au/harmony-remotes
Bauhn shows up in the brand search but without the model number I can't go further.

I have the harmony one remote from Logitech and it's pretty good.
You dont have to teach but you do need to connect it to a computer to set it up.
You basically go through the menu and select you equipment then set up activities like "Watch TV" or "Play DVD". For each activity you have to tell the remote what device to switch on and what input/output it needs to select on the individual gadgets you have.
When you done all that its as simple as point the remote at the general tv area so that the iR transmitter can see all the devices, then select "Watch a DVD", hold the romote pointed at the tv for a few seconds and it will switch everything on and set the devices to the correct input/outputs.
Pretty easy to use and if things get out of sync you just press the power button the remote and it switches everything off, the press the activity again.
It save me have about for remotes.
Sandy
Thanks Sandy, this TV will only be just a TV with nothing else hooked up to it, it will be in the spare room and switched on occasionally.
I was wondering dose one really need at remote to turn on the TV, or can it be done manually with the buttons on the TV itself. including changing the channels.
Or if i found an unused remote belonging to a BAUHN TV somewhere would that suffice.
