This is the next image I have processed from the 1 clear night we had at Bretti. Seeing the super bright stars of Orion rise above the trees over the camp site beckoned me to give it a go.
This is a combination of 26 x 3 minute subs at ISO3200 using the Canon 6D along with my Canon 70-200mm f/4L IS lens at 200mm stopped down to f/5.6. This is the full frame (apart from a slight crop to remove DSS stacking artefacts from the very edge of the frame). I would have had more subs if not for the fast approaching dawn. No doubt the darkness of Bretti proved to help capture all the dust and gas littering the region. If I had more time at a dark site I would really like to do a mosaic of the area, there is just so much going on!
A higher res shot can be found here (https://www.flickr.com/photos/59004995@N04/14936868118/).
As a comparison, I have included my very first attempt at astrophotography from 2012 which just happened to be of the same region of Orion. Pretty happy with my progress!
As always feedback appreciated and thanks for looking.
Cheers,
Jason

That's getting quite deep, lots of background dust visible.

Thanks Glen and Kevin, yes it was on its way to being a very deep image, can't imagine what it would look like with a few more hours worth of data.
The only thing I don't like about this image is that I forgot to take shorter subs for the core of the Orion Neb. I must have been that tired that it slipped my mine. Oh well, there is always next new moon to add to this!

So much dust!
A great looking wide photo Jason.
Your lens is giving you high quality results.
What mount are you using?
Ross.

Stunning mate
Next time I'll take the leaf blower to get all that dust out the way, it's spoiling the view

Thanks for the kind comments guys. I think this image is going to be a work in progress now. I really want to get some more subs added to it and work on showing some detail in the core of M42. Ross, the mount is the NEQ6Pro. Its a trusty mount that gets the job done.
No Dunk, don't blow the dust away! Keep your leaf blower at home! Oh better still, bring it and use it when it starts to get cloudy.

Thanks all for the kind comments, I will continue to try and improve my processing techniques. I think the next step for me is to make a cooler box for the camera like the one shown here http://dslrmodifications.com/rebelmod450d16d.html
