Noticed on the DGM site they have now formed a partnership with Omega Astro Filters who make filters and are used by major companies including NASA and have a GCE Filter which is a Galaxy Contrast Filter coming soon.

(Below is a quote from DGM )

The Galaxy Contrast Enhancement filter aids in the visual observation of galaxies and milky way dust clouds and dark lanes. The GCE filter takes a different approach to enhancing galaxy observation by allowing high transmission through nearly the entire visable spectrum while rejecting only the harmful light pollution wavelengths. Because of those attributes it is also a very good general purpose LPR filter, unlike traditional wideband filters exclude most of the red portion of the visable spectrum.

Price 1.25" $80 US 2" $160 US

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm VERY INTERESTING

I think the ad saying that the filter "takes a different approach" is misleading. I believe that is true only in the limited context of comparison with narrowband filters. The rest of the product description and the transmission plot on the DGM website indicate that this filter is probably very similar to other broadband LPR filters, e.g., Orion Skyglow.

Steve,

It`s not a broadband (bandpass) filter and it really is a different design than any visual filters out there I`m aware of.

I can`t post the actual spectral characteristics due to the terms of my agreement with Omega Optical. We know that eventually folks will order them and post scans on the net but for the here and now we feel inclined to protect the design.

Hey Dan,

Thanks for clarifying that. It will be a breakthrough if it actually enhances galaxies. To date we don't have such a filter....

Cheers,
Darren

p/s: by the way I am still loving the DGM VHT and NPB filters....they are the best...

Hi Darren,

Thanks for the kind words regarding the NPB and VHT! Hoping to have the GCE ready within the next 10 days or so.

Hi Dan

Thanks for responding to our thread we really appreciate it.

We purchased our DGM NPB 2" filter from you last month. It's fantastic used with our 27mm Pano and Pentax 7 & 10mm.

We posted a thread on the forum here " First Light with DGM NPB Filter " on 12th August and received favourable comments about your filters from other members of IIS.

We look forward to the release of the GCE filter.

If the galaxy filter really works, It would be an invaluable addition to my eyepiece case.

These DGM filters sound very promising.

Anyone in Oz selling them?

Anyone got a link to a website/s?

Many thanks:thumbsup:
