Just received my 10" Skywatcher Dob and going through the first time of Collimating. I think and I only just think that it is right. I bought the Orion Collimation Tool and it seems to work. I have about ten different sets of instructions on how to collimate and they all have slight variations on how to do the process. Collimation to the rank beginner is quite confusing and even some of the instructions state this. I am hoping to find some kind sole locally who will show me if what I am doing is correct. One thing I have noticed is the secondary adjustment by way of three very small allen keys is a pain. I noticed a product called Bobs Knobs , has anyone fitted these to a my scope and if so are they the solution
Thanks for any assistance

I dont know if they make them to suit...there mainly available for SCT and Mak/Newt and Mak/Cass....I dont know why.....you would think anything with an adjustable secondry would have some use for these.

I could be wrong and if so please correct me.

Hello i dont know about the Skywatcher mirror cell base but if it is the same setup and configuration as the Meade Lightbridge then Bob`s Knobs are made to suit. I have been looking for the same to suit the GSO 12" Dob I have, the Lightbridge base looks like they are exactly the same as the GSO

Hi Titanic, I replaced the Secondary & Primary knobs on my Lightbridge. I guarantee that the difference is phenomenal.
Astronomy-Shoppe in the U.S. have all the replacement knobs for just about any dob, go to www.Astronomy-Shoppe.com Tony Costanzo is a nice person to do business with and will help you with anything you need. Del is about 7-10 days. Cheers, John.:) :)

Titanic, you can buy a 'long' series allen key or even a 'screwdriver' version. Makes it so much easier. The other thing you can do, is to cut/grind the end off the allen key & silver solder it to an old screwdriver, like I did. :P

ps. Who said I was cheap n nasty....:poke:

Titanic, you need to contact the Astronomical Society of WA (http://aswa.info) and you will most likely be put in touch with me or another member privately who will be able to give you a one-on-one by arrangement. We just had our annual workshop on this very issue a week ago, but it's something that pops up regularly.

Contacted as suggested a Tony and he does all sorts of replacement Knobs and adjusters similar to Bobs Knobs. I told him in my email that I had a Skywatcher 10" Dob. His reply was that I had a scope made by GSO and he would have a set of adjusters to fit. Please explain GSO. Is this the same as my Skywatcher. I thought GSO was Guan Sheng ?

Hi Titanic
I believe they are coming from the same factory with a badge and colour change to suit the sellers needs. You may find minor differences with style and accessories..............
Happens with lots of things these days (take a look a laptops)

GSO is Guan Sheng but the Skywatchers are from Synta. Different factories. I think one is on Taiwan and one is in China but can't remember which is which.
