Hi,
You will be amazed to learn that the game itself bores me,:lol:, but I am quite interested in the role it plays in our social structure, values, role models, and all that sociological stuffo.
I never brought our 3 sons up to be interested, never took them to a game etc, never allowed them to play thugby, but soon there they were, all glued to the TV when Origin of the Species games were on. They won't allow me to razz them about it, I am told to "P*** off Dad, I can't hear!"
I was interested for instance in that media article about some rugger buggers suffering lifelong pain and disability after retirement. One bloke I see played on 4 seasons after being warned off by his doctor due to neck injuries. Why? Is it just the money, or more? Was he concussed, or taking a deliberate gamble?
I wonder whether future compensation claims against thugby clubs, from players who become paralyzed from the neck up - AHHH NO I mean from the neck down, really - might bring an upheaval in how they approach on-field tactics and rules.
I see in the USA there are claims being filed by well-known players now suffering dementia (I won't argue they always did :(). Will we see our NRL players wearing helmets and sumo suits as they roll around the field? One agency capable of enforcing such extremes is the insurance sector.
What do you think? Bring back the biff?
Cheers

Geoff, I think you are talking about that un-Australian thing they play up in Sydney, not proper football.

Mal, that "un-Australian thing" is played in more parts of the world than "the Melbourne game".
Of course none of them are really "football". The game called "football" when played at the professional level has more acting than most stage plays.
Go Swannies!
Malcolm,
a great win to be sure. Must feel terrific to end the string of 9th places!!!

Great win against a B grade Swans side who basically had nothing to play for ;)

As a Port fan I am looking forward to us Port fans welcoming the Tigers to Adelaide oval. It will be a powerful experience I am sure.

Thanks Paul
At their best, they are probably the 2 best groups of supporters in the AFL. I have been really impressed with the way the Port fans have got behind their club and the administration the last 2 years.
Looking forward to the match.

Malcolm there was a real resurgence after the change of management and coaching. I thought at first it was a mistake to get Koshi involved but as it turned out he has brought money back into the club, and fresh ideas on how to promote the power. The club had never had 50K members until this year and I dare say that there will be 40K of them on site on Sunday. The game is now just about sold out, so it should be an awesome final.

It is interesting how clubs work. We have tried high profile Presidents but that has rarely been a success. We now have a female president who is very low key and works in the background. Meanwhile yours is the exact opposite and that works for you.
I think it is not about being high profile or not, it is about quality.
Malcolm
Woohooo go tigers :)

As an Adelaide lad who has always supported the Tiges I can safely say even if they don't go any further it'd be worth it just to knock Port out.
Sorry Paul! :)
