I just accessed my Paypal account and the first page state's this ,

'We are currently performing regular maintenance of our security measures . Your account has been randomly selected for this maintenance , and you will now be taken through a series of identity verification pages.'
'Protecting the security of your Paypal account is our primary concern, we apologise , bla , bla ,,, '. :shrug:.

They then ask for my credit card details :question: Why would they need these ? , I am weary of giving these out , is this kosher ? has this happened to anyone else ? am I being overly paronoid ?
:question::question: . I know the scammers are getting better all the time and I am weary of this page .

I just logged to paypal in via an iPad and am not getting that message. Even though it claims to be a random check, I would not expect anyone would ask for credit card details to verify identity.

It's legitimate. As long as it's a *.paypal.com address.

Either your card has been reported stolen, or, its details have expired...

The simple answer is to contact them directly and ask if it's legit.
Regardless of the address, I don't think that they would ask for
any of your personal details.

Sorry guys, there is NO way that PayPal would send you a message asking for ANY personal details, especially credit cards etc.

Can you copy and paste the first part of the URL which presents you that message, please? Everything up to, and, including, the .com

Also, where it says https://, right click on it and view the certificate. If it is authentic, then, the "issued to" bit will be noted as www.paypal.com

Anything else, ignore it.

Hi there,
I had the same thing. Just ignore it, I did and they didn't ask me again. Don't risk your details. If it is legitimate they will ask you again. Until then ........ don't let scammers get the better of you.

I have occasionally got suspect messages from paypal. I forward them direct to paypal "spoof" and they acknowledge.

However that message looks very suspect and I certainly would not answer it.

It's a scam! I had the same message, checked it with scamwatch. DON'T SEND ANY DETAILS.

Easiest way to make sure is to forward the email to PayPal's scam section.

The easiest thing to do is just what I suggested: check the SSL certificate.

IF you have logged into your paypal account using the correct address, yes, they CAN ask you to update your credit card - I have been asked multiple times, (and the SSL certificate is legit).

If you are asked in an EMAIL or an EMAIL WITH A LINK< it's a scam.

Log into the site directly, LEGIT.

I tried to sell a 180 Mak Mirage in CloudyNights, a few days ago. (incidentally, if anyone wants it ... :D) The buyer tried to trick me and I discovered that because the email address was not really Paypal (paypalcare@yandex.com)

Careful with the data !!!
