What's your favourite DSO?
There was a thread back in Sept 2004:

but I thought it would be nice to get the preferences of the current members.
Perhaps you could include the RA and Dec for newbies like me:hi:

I would have to say that any of the globular clusters would have to be my favourites, some are more spectacular than others but they are all special in their own way

OC NGC 6231

Bright Nebula, NGC 3373 (Eta Carinae Neb) 10 45, -59 50 Carina
Planetery Nebula, NGC 6853 (M27 Dumbell Neb) 20 00, +22 43 Vulpecula
Globular Cluster, NGC 5139 (Omega Centauri) 13 27, -47 29 Centaurus
Open Cluster, NGC 3532 11 06, -58 40 Carina
Galaxy, NGC 4594 (M104 Sombrero gal) 12 40, -11 37 Virgo
open cluster 3293/ RA: 10h36m04.57s DE:-58°15'31.4"
mag 5ish i guess
just as pretty as the jewel box :)

Globular Omega Centauri
Looking along the central Milky Way in Winter
Eta Carinae
NGC 253, 300, 55, 247.
And after much searching 13mag Planetary, Shapely 1 in Norma

I'm partial to Centaurus A, even though I've barely seen it! Going dark-sky in a week - will provide updates then! Ditto M83......

The following objects occur in 7 lists of southern objects. I looked at 8 lists. The best list is the one in Hartung.
Hartung's Astronomical Objects for Southern Telescopes: A Handbook for Amateur Observers (2nd ed). A southern extension to the Messier Catalogue, page 416.
Globular cluster NGC 104 = 47 Tuc
Nebula NGC 2070 = Tarantula
Nebula NGC 3372 = Eta Carinae
Open cluster NGC 4755 = Jewel Box
Globular cluster NGC 4833 in Musca
Galaxy NGC 5128 = Cen A
Globular cluster NGC 5139 = Omega Cen
Open cluster NGC 6231 in Sco
Globular cluster NGC 6397 in Ara
Galaxy NGC 6744 in Pav, has low surface brightness
Globular cluster NGC 6752 in Pav
