Good stuff. Peter Capaldi seems to make a fine doctor. It's good to see the Brits continue the cult series, unlike the yanks that have dropped the ball with Star Trek.

most fun on TV for a long time. Capaldi is very good, but Coleman stole the show.

"The Doctor is back" ...... well, I think he should go back. I decided to watch it through to the end last night to see why people get so excited about the series and can honestly say that it was the greatest load of nonsensical, farcical and disjointed load of drivel I have come across on television in a long time. What am I missing? Is this supposed to be serious comedy or just comedy ?, that is the question. Needless to say, I'll be giving this show a big miss in the future.

yes, it could be a bit of culture shock to drop in on that episode.

I guess that fans of the show have watched the script structure develop over the years - to the stage that we no longer see the inherently ridiculous nature of it all. Much of theatre is like that - you have to know the rules to enjoy it. Japanese Kabuki for example is highly stylized and not even remotely realistic - but it is still revered entertainment. Closer to home, Agatha Christie TV stories are filled with diabolical murders - rarely realistic and often horrific, but once you accept the rules, they are entertaining. The various codes of football have two groups of overpaid grown men chasing a bag of air around a field - a ridiculous activity at heart, but very entertaining when you know the rules. Dr Who has a whole range of ridiculous plots and characters, but I found the first episode of series 8 to be most enjoyable viewing - but only because I know the rules.

Not trying to convert you , just explain why something so ridiculous is so much fun and so entertaining for many.

I'm a huge fan of the show. But this episode didn't grab me.
That said, I'm sure Peter Capaldi will settle into the role just fine.
Honestly, it isn't usually that "slapstick". If you really want to give the show a second chance, you should probably start with episode one, season one of the new series.

I thought that the episode was a little disjointed but OK. I think he will make a good doctor when he settles in a little. A few tips of the hat to previous seasons too.
