Can anybody confirm for me that polar alignment is not really necessary for visual astronomy.
I've assembled my C8 on EG5GT and hope to get first light tonight. (Assuming I don't need to polar align.)

There are degrees :P Evan. If you just want to plonk it down and drive it manually then accuracy isn't really an issue. If you want to use the goto then the closer your get the better. If you can get it within a couple of degrees, for visual work you should have np. It will also depend on how accurate your go to needs to be to perform an accurate star alignment.

Not necessary but if you do have goto you will need to get a fairly close polar align otherwise your goto actions will not be too accurate.
