I can't wait. I'll be like a kid in a lolly shop.

Tomorrow I pick up a 10" Collapsible Dobsonian. It's not brand new but from what I've been told, it may as well be.

I've currently got a 4" Skywatcher on a tripod mount and whilst I've enjoyed using it, I will be straight outside tomorrow night with the new one and checking things out.

I look forward to having a look and reporting back what I've been able to see. As I said, I'm super excited. Does anyone else get this way?

I love new toys. You have no choice in growing older, but you don't have to grow up.

I woke up this morning to the horrible sound of wet stuff on my tin roof. Not happy!

It wasn't all my fault Trevor. Ha Ha Ha.

I did get it out last night for about three quarters of an hour. I was very impressed and noticed the difference as compared to my 4" almost immediately. And that was just some random place in the sky once I threw an eye piece in.

I focussed a bit on Saturn and Mars last night and did a bit of searching for other random things. I think I found Rigel Kent. Not 100% sure. I had a print out of the skymap for August and then consulted some charts Acropolite gave me so I think I am right. I was just more concerned about getting used to the scope and having a play. Hopefully the next few nights I can get out again and keep familiarising myself more.

I want to check out the Magelanic Clouds and find some bigger stars etc. I have highlighted some things on the skymap that I want to find so this will be a test for me as I go on. I figure that's the best way to learn their names. Getting used to the M and the NGC codes will be something I want to do too. All in time I guess.

I've started to draw my own pictures instead of relying on starmap printouts as they are in reverse and I can't be bothered holding someting above my head, so a brief map on paper in conjunction with iPhone software (Sky Safari) will be good.

Overall, I am certainly very happy and excited. Thank you Omegacrux for the kind offer and it has gone to a good home. I will take good care of it. The little table is a great help too.

My seven year old son has advised he would like a telescope now to come out with me and look at the moon.

I'm going to buy a T-Ring and Adapter next for my camera so will try and get some pics as I go.

Its a good sized scope and quite a step up from a 4". I am sure you'll be pleased with the results. How do you go with dew around the Tamar?
