View Full Version here: : Having trouble using my camera adapter with 10mm eyepiece?

Please forgive my ignorance on the matter, I'm literally learning from scratch with all of this!
I purchased this variable T-Adapter (http://www.opticscentral.com.au/saxon-variable-camera-adapter.html#.U_Xk-YCSzyA) so that I can use my eyepieces with a Canon 550D attached.
I've found that the 25mm eyepiece that came with the package works fine, however I don't seem to have enough focal depth(?) for the 10mm to work?
Can someone please tell me how I've gone wrong with this? :)

Hi IC1101, It is impossible to work out what your problem is without knowing exactly what equipment you have. Pictures would be better
than a description. I suspect that it is a matter of running out of focal
adjustment, or if your scope is a refractor, maybe trying to use a
diagonal for eyepiece projection on a scope that won't work that way,
or vice versa.

The fact that eyepiece projection works with the 25mm eyepiece but not the 10mm one suggests that the camera cannot be brought closely enough to the eyepiece. If you have exhausted the adjustment range of the camera adapter you could try locking the 10mm eyepiece sticking out a bit further.
Cheers

The focus distance changes for each eye piece. I found position of the eyepiece in the tube matters or you wont get the focal length you need to focus.
I've got same set up and had the same trouble.
I havent time now but later I'll do some photos to show what I did

Hey! Sorry for the lack of information. It's a 10" Dobsonian and I'm using the two 1.25" eyepieces that came with it.
I'm definitely running out of focal adjustment, I'm just curious as to why this would be the case as this particular adapter is made to be used with 1.25" eyepieces.
I'll definitely attempt this and see if I can get a better result.
Thanks guys!

The 1.25" refers to the external diameter of the barrel, it's a standard size so that all Eyepieces will fit all focissers. The focal length of the Eyepiece, 10mm or 25 mm etc is the crunchy bit that is causing your issue. Suppliers will list Projection EPs that are configured specifically for this purpose and they are normally in the larger sizes. If you want to go further into Astrophotography you have to look at CCD and DSLR type cameras that will work without theEP.
And that is a deep dark slippery expensive and frustrating hole as many who have gone before will testify
