So,
following my post on Omega Cent, here's the Tarantula.
One thing I learnt last night was that if you shoot on the lowest quality setting you seem to chase your A$#e in the processing.
Normally I shoot JPEG High Fine, and end up with a 2 - 3 mb file. This sequence (Omega as well) were shot on Basic Coarse, and about 550kb files. It is good to learn something, yeah right.

So pretty gary, that's a lovely shot.
Sort of looks how it did with an OIII filter in the other night.
I read somewhere once that if NGC2070 was as close to Earth as M42 is, it would take up half the sky! and we thought M42 was a big nebula! :)
Very nice shot, please keep them coming!

Hi Gary, very nice, One thing has me puzzled with 2070, I have taken images with the DSI of 2070 and I get similar colours to what you have here, with the DSI the nebula is not quite as blue more blue/gray.Images I have done on film differ too mine show a ruddy brown tinging towards red.
other shots I have seen over the years seem to show more red infact lots of red take alook at this image from the AAT. sure its taken through a 2m scope but why is there such a big difference in colour? is it maybe because we are using digital?
I can't see why using digital should have this effect, any ideas anyone?

Great shot Gazzer.. Did you do dark frame subtraction? It kinda looks like you didn't?
I can't work out the blue/red thing either David. My slide film shots from the early days were also red. I think that film has generally more red sensitivity then any other colour, so you get red bias with film. CCD is more even across the spectrum, so perhaps that has something to do with it.
David, you SS2k cable is sill on my todo list. I have been all over the show lately with SPSP and now being in Perth for a few days. I promise I will get it done. Hopefully within the week!
Cheers

Great shot, Gary, nebula is nicely captured. Shot is a little grainy though, this is no doubt from the lower resolution. Still nicely done. Keep em coming.
you are trying to tell me gary that you arent happy with this pic?
you are crazy! its a great pic :)
close to what i see thru the telescope tho...

Hi Guys,
not entirely happy, but given the equipment, happy enough.
The biggest glitch is the low res, I could have kicked myself when I found out is was on the LOWEST setting. Doh!!
So yes this is where the graininess etc comes from.
The blue is what it appeared like straight from the chip. Yes it is different to the film equivilent, and I think this is the reaosn so many hack their DSLR's, to remove the filter that absorbs this (Ha???).
As an experiment it turned out OK, but I hope to re-do it.

Beautiful shot Gary. It'd be nice if you get that set in a ring, and give it to the wife......
