Congratulations Terry on your latest comet!
Just got a piccy as it was being given it's official designation. C/2014 Q2 (Lovejoy), 2014 08 19 1740UT start 21 x 4 minutes, ED100 at F7.2, Pentax K-5. I think I can even see a hint of tail at 5 O'clock.
Track and trail views. Currently in Puppis at around magnitude 15.

Way to go Terry! This is such awesome news and wow didn't take you long to find your next comet after last November's R1 comet! :eyepop:
Likely, this will be a telescopic object at best; its perihelion date is due Jan. 2nd and on December 7, the comet could pass just 6.5 million miles from Earth. Whichever way it performs, I look forward to observing it thru my scope with glee. :D
I seriously wouldn't be surprised if Terry's comet did something unexpected like his other two Christmas comets did. But no pressure Terry- I will embrace those comet photons whichever way I can get them.

And it's good to see humans still making comet discoveries. Although I like the comets, all those Panstarrs names for every comet are getting a bit samey!

H, find_orb predicts perihelion 2015/01/30.1
At Sydney's latitude it will only be visible for a couple of hours per day and below 20 deg. Queensland gets a better view.

congrats terry, this is obviously the result of a lot of dedicated hard work and a high degree of technical skill so well deserved ...... for selfish reasons i hope its as good as this one :thumbsup:
