Taken with a DSLR on a tripod with a nifty 50. 58 x 5 seconds, 50mm at F2, Pentax K-5. 2014 August 09 1900UT. Capella is at the lower right on the wide uncropped shot. The yellow thing to the lower left is a leaf.

Thanks Justin. It's heading north for now, but swings south again in September. It can't seem to make up it's mind lol.

Hi Chris, unfortunately now that the moon is in the sky the comet would be a very difficult target. By the time the moon clears the comet will be too low. You can try for it if you want. I've attached a finder chart. Best observing time for Mackay is 5:15am very low in the north to the left of Capella. Over the next few days it will drop lower to the north each day. Don't worry if you miss it this August, it will be back in September.
Actually September / October will be great for comets. There's a bunch of bright ones all coming at the same time. 2014 E2 will be back, along with 2013 A1, 2012 K1 and 2013 V5. I'll be a busy little cometcatcher lol.
Probably the best pages to keep tabs on comets. http://www.aerith.net/comet/future-s.html and http://cometchasing.skyhound.com/

Hey Comet catcher, I really love your pics and always bring me some idea what to take in the sky.
However since my balconly facing west only therefore not much I can take at this moment.. but cant wait Sept/Oct for the comet.

Well for the west don't miss the close approach of comet 2013 A1 (Siding Spring) and Mars on October 19.
