Today, the 8th August, celebrates the birthday of Paul Dirac in 1902.
Dirac shared the 1933 Nobel Prize in Physics with Erwin Schrödinger
and made fundamental contributions to quantum mechanics, including
the famous Dirac equation.
Dirac was the Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at Cambridge from
1932 to 1969.
In 1975 he gave a series of five lectures at the University of New South Wales
which were then published as a book. The royalties of the book were
donated to UNSW for the establishment of the Dirac Lecture Series
and the Silver Dirac Medal for the Advancement of Theoretical Physics.
In 2012, the silver medal was awarded to Brian Schmidt.
Dirac died in 1982 in Florida age 84.
