I am a rank amateur and took this pic with a Canon 450D and a 400 mil prime lens. I think I need a big telescope.;)

That's a great result with just a telephoto lens - well done!

Put a 1.4x teleconverter on it for 560 or or 2x for 800 :)
400 and 1.4 is pretty good for moon shots
Most of these shots are with 100-400 with 1.4 tele
