Hi all,

Now this is the scope I may be getting. It is called the Guan Sheng GS-680 8" and it is a dobsonian. Now it is advertising on the site that it is the newest model and it is $449 AU dollars. It also comes with 3 GSO Plossl eyepieces which is a good deal.

But would this scope be good for me as I want to see deep sky objects and also the planets. I know that the bigger in aperture you go the more you will see but is this big enough to see deep sky objects. Oh and it also comes with a moon filter which is sweet. Honestly i think it is a good buy for me but would you guys think it is a good buy for a beginner like me. I've had a telescope in the past and use it here and there but it isn't great just a telescope that i got in a national geographic magazine from like 10 years ago.

And the picture of the telescope it below:):help::shrug::D

It was found a a website a fellow member shared with me on here, this is the link:http://www.andrewscom.com.au/site-section-10.htm

Just scroll down a bit it will be there priced at $449

Its a good scope to start with and GSO make good mirrors for the price. Yes you can see DSOs with that scope.

I had the 12" version of that and before that an 8" dob that was very similar (still GSO but earlier model).
Yes you will be able to see plenty of DSOs. All the Messiers (100 of them are theoretically visible here in Vic so should be able to get most of those in Sydney. Lots of NGC objects will also be visible.
Just be aware that the scope will come disassembled and on past experience GSO often do not include assembly instructions.

Go the 10 inch. Manageable and transportable.
