View Full Version here: : Life in the Doghouse - a reprieve

Well to those that don't know or care to remember, my trip to Qld was a huge hit and success for me. But my triumphant return home was not so good. First I was out in the cold, then I managed to get a covering in the doghouse, then got carpet (she spoke to me finally), and now i am allowed inside!
So to celebrate, we are going to dubbo , to go to the zoo, and the gaol In October. So would i be pushing things if I went to the Dubbo Observatory:P :D ?
I seem to remember a certain brave soul sneaking his new Mak along to his family's camping trip only to get busted by his beloved wife last year.

Hi Houghy
Good to hear that things are all well in the houghy household.
We are encouraging families to attend the Border Stargaze in 07, so you may want to sweeten the deal and add in a trip to the snow while you are down here:D. There will be lots for the kids to do, so maybe a consideration for next year.
Cheers Petra

tell the wife that if you are going to spend so much time in the doghouse, that it needs to be BIGGER!
then when the doghouse gets BIG enough it might just be able to fit a roll off roof - if you get my drift

Only one course of action Huffy, tell her you're getting help at AA (Astronomers Anonymous) There are, of course, meetings you'll have to attend, possibly weekends or longer away at detox camps, it's the only way she'll rid you of this terrible addiction...:lol2:

Hey Phil
The only way that I overcame the "otherhalf" issue is to take them along - even if they are not into astronomy (he does enjoys the camping side of it). But I do like your idea about the AA camp - we may have to rename the event;).

True True and true. So the proposed pier in the backyard will be a collaborative effort, and a few weeks in the planning;) I bought the EQ6 head extension piece last week, now to get the pier working:D :P :scared:
And yes it wasnt pretty either was it Paul! Mental note - must be good to wifey and not show I am enjoying anything ever!

Roll off roof = divorce = loss of spendable income. Not a good idea for the moment. BUt tis a future project though:D

Hi Dave
That's great news indeed. I know we sometimes banter about these relationship issues in a somewhat cavalier and tongue in cheek fashion, but I reckon that no marriage, or relationship, is worth losing over a hobby, without putting up a good fight to make it work, if both want it.
I still cannot understand anyone though, who would not be happier with their spouse close by, in the back garden, doing serious intellectual work, rather than down the boozer getting into trouble.
All the best to you and yours.
Cheers
Dennis

Houghy,
It might be worth the self-inflicted pain by not even mentioning anything Astro on your Dubbo trip.
It may be worth a thousand brownie points.

Next year I have two IIS camps, SPSP, Qld astrofest, maybe Snake valley, oh and If I can squeeze it in CWAS! The vic border one is on with astrofest sorry guys, dare I say it I like the queenslanders, they are a dopey lot but they have some nice stars and stuff there!

And you are our favourite New South Welshman, who pillaged and plundered our Qld skies with his Canon toys and optical tubes atop shiny mounts.

Dennis , I have found I get into trouble no matter what, and I don't like pubs all that much, and don't drink much either, although I do like the grape juice;) . just my natural talent to open my mouth and swap feet, some time in between that she must have fell in love with me (too much grape juice:P ) and we made mistakes, officially twice:lol: ;) . But I am learning that the female species are very hormonal, and when hormonal and stressed that is not a good mix, add tired and its deadly, then sprinkle a shovell full of astronomy and husband happiness and its explosive.
Ken, FYI I will not be taking any binoculars, or telescopes, just the trusty Pentax *istDS, the 50-500 and a tripod (with solar filter and maybe a few sunset shots, you know the ones about midnight:rofl: :poke: mental note - must give wife extra glass of wine

No Ken seriously she is a Cadburys woman of the world, a glass and a half and she is comfortably numb, 2 glasses and she is smashed. Then sleeps.
we enjoy our nightly glass of wine with dinner, no more no less.thats it. too much makes her ill, and that is not a pretty sight, for me or the kids. And never play ABBA after the glass and a half either:rofl:

It was a tough decision on the timing, yes they are close. But you are Qld's favourite son, and you do have to make an appearance. We may try and snag you as astrophoto judge in future years. But come down this way soon.
Re your second comment - ooohhh you do like living dangerously.

HOughy, this is an absolute cracker of a thread, boy you can get yourself in trouble.
Flowers are good too.
ie one bunch of roses, followed by an astro camp invite left "accidently" on the kitchen table.
A few weeks later, a nice dinner for two, with kids bundled off to the grand parents, followed the next morning conversation turning to an "apparent" internal debate you are having re going to "said camp"
the winner is a 3 weeks before the camp, send lovely wife out for a shopping trip with her friends, "don't worry about a thing, love" kids bathed, dinner cooked and house clean upon her giggly arrival home.
astro camp in the BAG!!!!

OK, um she hates shopping, she has few friends, and I am never , repeat never to mention the A word ever:D

David,
Before said trip to Dubbo, hire out "The Dish". You never know, She may even suggest visiting it herself.
Good luck.

How about locking her and the kids up at Dubbo Gaol then nipping off to the Radio Telescope?

Don't forget my motto..."It is always easier to beg for forgiveness afterwards than to ask for permission beforehand"...
I also remind my wife that a crime of passion/anger is still a crime...so far I've been able to stay alive...
