Weird looking Comet C/2013 A1 (Siding Spring) meets weird looking Galaxy NGC1291 in Eridanus. :screwy: 2014 0802 1600UT. Skywatcher ED100 at F7.2, 112 x 1 minute sub frames, Pentax K-5.

Nice to see another shot at this, the only other one I've seen around is Damian Peach's which is predictably great yet out of reach of us mere mortals :lol: Hence I'm pleased to see your take on it.

I presume you have done two stacks and combined them, one for the comet which would have moved significantly during 1.9 hours and one for the galaxy?

Nice colour balance.

My only suggestion would be to process such that the centre of NGC 1291 is less burnt out.

Yes same data but two stacks combined. They are not easy to combine well and it takes time. DSS does it, but badly. I only bother when there is an interesting field.

Yeah the galaxy core is burned out and the stars bloated. Something I'll get around to fixing some time lol.

There's a conjunction with 47 Tuc on August 30. That will make an interesting composite.

I'm interested to hear you say that. I have tried it in DSS myself in the past and thought it didn't do it well, but thought that must just be me. I did find it time consuming to do a stack like this.

Thanks Frosty. Well, comets are much like other DSO's except they move from night to night. You need a webpage or planetarium program to find them. Most of them are very faint. Best to try for the brighter ones mag 6 or brighter to start with.
