Starting to get some OIII data for my Veil Nebula mosaic. Here's a crop of one pane containing "Pickering's Triangle." Approximately 8 hours of Ha and 8 hours of OIII with a Tak FSQ-106ED scope and QSI683 camera.

First attempt at processing this and I'm not entirely happy with it so I'd appreciate constructive criticism as always...

Higher res version here: http://www.astrobin.com/110656/0/

Added a starless version which I like a lot more. High res: http://www.astrobin.com/full/111040/B/

Thanks,
Rick.

Gaud, thats just stunning!!!!. Having said that, this singular object, bar none, can with effort be rendered to appear absolutely razor sharp. This is damb close though, top effort!.

Lovely piece of work Rick. The colours are really nice and the detail is very good. Lots of data too.

With the QSI are you using a reducer or is this at f5? Sorry if you have told me this before but I have forgotten.

That's amazing!

Thanks, Fred. I didn't blink through the subs yet and reject the worst ones. Hopefully I can squeeze a littlle more sharpness out of it.

Ta, Paul. Just native f/5.

Thanks, Kevin. It's the object that's amazing but I'll take a small amount of credit for not destroying it with my processing :)

Cheers,
Rick.

Thanks, Marc. I'm not entirely happy with the stars and the background so more work needed. If I can get it right on one panel I'll be in good shape when I finally have data for the whole mosaic.

I see a bit of blue tinge over all the stars in the hi res version rick. Might b my monitor.

I had a flick through my veil images and the stars do have colours so your in for the long haul here mate :)

Thanks, Trevor!

Ta, Greg. It's nice to have some new objects and an abundance of data. It's processing time that I'm short on now.

Thanks, Ron!

Thanks, Mike. It's an amazing object all right!

Thanks for looking, Robin. Might try a starless version for my next experiment (and then attempt some tone mapping...)

Thanks, David & Rod. Just added a starless version to my original post. I may regret it, but at present I really like it...

Ha! The starless version looks like a scene from Jaws or something.... Blood in the water.

"Your gonna need a bigger boat" ;) Nice Rick!

Thanks, Rod! BTW, that's precisely what someone said to me recently when bemoaning how little of the IC5148 halo I had after collecting 53.5 hours of OIII

hehe, most excellent Rick!. Starless certainly shows structure detail without distraction. Star removal can be very difficult, artifacts are hard to avoid. Its a good effort and worth doing for this object.

Thanks, Fred. I think I lost a little of the sharpness in the neb as well. Definitely some more research to do there...

Thanks, Dunk!

Thanks, Dave. Have you been to the JJJNettie school of Pareidolia :)
