Hi all

Here's one of the last images from my lunar session of the 3rd August 2006.

It's the odd craters Licetus (bottom one) and Heraclitus (top one) which are joined by an interesting scraped out looking formation.

Taken with the 5x powermate, giving approx 7500mm FL, through the R+IR filter, DMK21AF04 @ 30fps.

12 point MAP processing, LR deconvolution in AstraImage, followed by high-pass filter + levels adjustment in photoshop.

Thanks for looking.

yet another rhapsody in grey Mike:D

I hope they get the MAP functionality going in registax soon for us mere mortals - I want to give this a go;)

By the way I notice you do high pass filtering after the LR deconvolution - does this reduce grain or something like that?

cheers,

Thanks Rob, I can't wait for registax 4 as well.. doing manual MAP processing is VERY time consuming.

The high-pass filtering is another sharpening algorithm. I use it instead of unsharp mask to do the last final touchups and sharpening to bring out more detail.

Thanks guys

I love the little crater chain inside one of the craters to the top right of Heraclitus, and some ray streaks in the crater to the left.

Quite an interesting part of the moon.

Hi Mike

Yes, the banding in some of the craters and the numerous minor craterlets all over make this a very interesting image. Outstanding capture and processing, it is sharp right to the edge.

If I find out where Robert T lives, I may pay him a midnight call when his DMK is err,...unattended…

Cheers

Dennis

Thanks Dennis.

FYI, I read today that the DMK has dropped from US$490 to US$390! Makes it a VERY affordable upgrade.. (if you don't count the filter wheel + filters you'll need as well).

Go for it! Get the skynyx next year :)

Thanks for that info Mike; I'm still not sure if the difference between your razor sharp, contrasty images and my soft, wishy-washy efforts are down to optics, camera or operator skills in capture and processing, so I might just wait a wee while and squeeze the last dregs of quality out of the ToUcam and maybe myself. ;)

I can't see myself going for the filter wheel immediately if (sorry - when) I get the DMK; I'll probably spend a few months on the moon in B&W then upgrade to colour. After all, why do the hard yards when you and Robert are so obliging with your wonderful planetary images.

I'll have to pay a visit to Zac (SKYNix) and Robert (DMK) before making a decision.

Cheers

Dennis
