A quickish Omega Centauri

Looking for something to image early in the evenings last month while I waited for my preferred targets to rise, I shot a few images of Omega Centauri.

Here is the result - 4 hours Lum and just under 1 hour each of R, G and B in 5 minute subs.

Taken from my dark sky site near Coona at the iTelescope facility with a PW CDK12.5 and STX16803.

Processed (roughly) in PI.

Nice one Pete! Very bright. Gotta love secondary targets, some of mine come out better than the primary object :rolleyes::D

That's a terrific Omega. How long were the subs? Nicely processed. One suggestion - the framing is potentially good as you framed it to catch that pretty blue star to the right. But if you rotated the image a tad and cropped the image a small amount to go back to square shaped that blue star would be on the diagonal of the image and would present the whole scene more aesthetically.

Cheers Rick. I find processing globs tough - do you darken them so as to accentuate the colours or leave them bright to highlight how many stars there - and there are so many!

5 minuts subs - binned x2 for RGB and unbinned for Lum. I find it hard to justify shifting from that setup as it works well for this rig. I have it pre-programmed in CCD Navigator so its the default setting for all my images.

Can't work out how to rotate in PI (other than by 90 degrees) - though I am sure there is a way. So I cropped and rolled it that way - its not centred and I have cropped more than I would like but I do see how the visual appeal is improved by the framing. I haven't given much thought to that in the past - I'm more interested in finding a guide star - but I see why you are keen on it.
