Hello
This a three pane mosaic I made from my last image, adding a image from last year and a supplemental image I made in order to fill the gap between them.

All processed in PixInsight.
It got a lot of work in order to manually get the stars of the three images aligned, (more than 500 star pairs on the 3rd image) since automatic aligment did not work properly. I supose that this is because of the distortion of the wide field images.

Here larger:

comments and critics welcome.

Lovely, Geert!

I wonder if it would be possible to use the CatalogStarGenerator script to produce alignment reference images to remove the distortion in your mosaic panels and make automatic alignment possible?

Cheers,
Rick.

Thanks Paul, Andrew and Rick.

Rick That could be a good Idea. If I remember, there is a script from Andres Pozo that could be help full for that but some times we have the solution at hands but don't see it....

Andres is the author of CatalogStarGenerator and also MosaicByCoordinates, the older AlignByCorrdinates, etc. All useful tools for mosaics but I think CSG is the only one that would allow you to remove distortion.

Cheers,
Rick.

Very slick!

I'm very impressed with the silky-smoothness to your images.

What camera/scope?

:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Well, at least I could generate the star field up to mag 16, next step is to try to align my images to that...

Hello Rick
I tested this a few minutes ago, and the results are not satisfactory, there are still stars that are not properly aligned, which when combining the mosaic produce double stars....

Hmmm... I presume that's what the script is for. I'll watch the thread on the PI Forum with interest.

Cheers,
Rick.

Thats a fine image in every way. I was supprised it was taken with a DSLR and a modest rig after viewing, very impressive indeed.
