NGC6397 is one of our closest globular clusters. Its a pretty interesting place in that its really dense with stars separated in light weeks rather than the light years between our Sun and its nearest neighbor. Every so often there are collisions and when they collide new blue stars are thought to form.

The Hubble Heritage has a good piece on it here (http://hubblesite.org/newscenter/archive/releases/2003/21/)

This is 80mins appx of RGB captured during the last new moon using a GSO RC8 and STL6303e. Processing in PI

Nice image David. I was just imaging this cluster the other night. It's a pretty one.

Thanks for the comment, Kevin. It is indeed.

Cheers Rick. You would be amused to know that your PI workflow, now somewhat dog-eared, is tucked away in my processing notebook. Yup, am pleased with the star colours

Nice job on this cluster Dave, not often imaged but it is a beauty really.

I imaged it way back in 2004 but your image is much better

Cheers Paul. The variation in colour was quite a surprise to me.

I like the back story on the cluster, interesting stuff. Surprised it didn't come up more when looking around. Thanks for the feedback
