Hi,

Tough to get data this winter!!

So one repro, of M16 the eagle, really like this version. I spent a lot of time and many different versions before this.

M16 details.

Equipment.

8" Newtonian astrograph f/4. on HEQ pro 5 mount. Orion (http://www.astronomyforum.net/wiki/Orion) mini guider.

Unmodded canon 1100D, baader coma corrector, cooler box.

13 x 9 minute subs, ISO 800 & 1600, stacked in DSS (http://www.astronomyforum.net/wiki/DSS), processed in PS7.

NGC 6744 in Pavo is 3.5 hours of hard won data.
I'd like another 3.5 hours.
Boy this thing is hard to process!!!
Especially when the data was not the best.

NGC 6744 details.

Equipment.

8" Newtonian astrograph f/4. on HEQ pro 5 mount. Orion (http://www.astronomyforum.net/wiki/Orion) mini guider.

Unmodded canon 1100D, baader type III coma corrector.
42 x5 minute subs, ISO 1600, stacked in DSS (http://www.astronomyforum.net/wiki/DSS), processed in PS7.

Cheers,

Justin.

Some nice colour in M16, Justin. NGC 6744 is a difficult target so you've done well.

Very nice images Justin. Were you shooting from dark skies or city? I've been contemplating purchasing a similar setup to yours, i.e. 8" f4 newt on a heq5. How do you find the balance and are you using the carbon fibre version or steel newt? Keep up the great imaging!

Love the colours on both!

Note to self, must add 6744 to the target list...

Yes NGC 6744 is a deceptively difficult taget to get right and you have doen a pretty good job here

Nice work

Thanks Rick!

Thanks Mohammed!

I'm fortunate to live in a dark rural site, certainly helps.
Balance is always a constant battle, especially when the cooler box is used, quite heavy.
I'm using the steel version, which I've just beefed up a little more to remove flexure, all I need is some clear skies to test it out.

Thanks RB!

Thanks Kevin!

What scope are you going to use to image it?

Thanks Mike!

Certainly takes a light hand to process the details in the galaxy.
I usually hit them with a sledge hammer.

Cheers,

Justin.

That would be my new toy SW ED100. Probably at F9 so it will need 1 million hours to get enough light.

I like the Eagle. 6744 is a toughie for a refractor.

So it would seem. On googling it I found an image of 6744 by Mike from 2002 with a 152mm Starfire APO of 8 hours exposure with one of those cheap FLI ProLine cameras. :P

This means two things. First, Justin has done a remarkable job, and second I think I'll give up before I start lol.

Greg, nothing is too hard for a refractor, just depends on the size of your refractor.
