Just wondering if anyone here has aligned their argo navis (or other encoders) during the day against bright star/planets? I'm curious to hear what your experience is like if so as I'm planning on doing this with my 14.5" dob. Thanks :)

Hi Mohammed,

We have, but more typically we have simply aligned it at night and then
not powered it off for the following day.

It can be interesting looking at some of the brighter stars during the
day and their colors.

With aligning during the day, particularly using Venus as one of the
alignment objects, apart from knowing roughly where to look, I find
it can take a little practice to focus the eyes to infinity if you are
on your back looking up at a clear blue sky. Once you spot it naked
eye a few times, it becomes easier to put it in the finder.

I have forgotten which one it is, but there is an IC object with a bright
star as one of its members, so it is a chuckle to claim you were
looking at an IC object during the daytime.

I'd be interested to hear how you get on.

Best Regards

Oh yeah, it's so frustrating TRYING to get infinity focus during the day to spot stars/planets. I have managed maybe twice!
