Always the optimist, I thought if I kept the shots nice and short I'd have no problem. :screwy: Well just have a look at this.

ISO800 30sec ED80 and Canon 300D. Widefield of Neptune, somewhere in there :P this is going to take some serious curve, levels and subtractive image masking (Neptune was only 3 deg from moon) Now I understand why they call these shots "lights" as opposed to "darks"

Are you sure you haven't accidentally negatively inverted the image???

Cheers

Paul, this is what happens when you don't devote youself exclusively to drinking straw fov's of planets only. You've started socialising with stars as well so you've only got yourself to blame:P

It's a bit sad I know, you could almost say desperate But my lovely wife kept asking "Are you going out tonight. It's lovely out there" So what's a guy to do.

And do you know what is worse. I actually callibrated, aligned combined and processed the 30 images to see if I could get something out of it. I did but I don't think it will be very usable for the project. Ah well! :P

Gaaon Paul! It might take some digging to find Nepture there, but we're right behind you! You can do it!

...and I want to see how it turns out!;) (I like happy endings...)

I sorta knew I was in for some trouble when I had real problems focusing. Even my 4 sec DSLR shots were getting whited out so much it was a real challent for me (and for the program :P ) telling the stars from the background

I had a go at your image. Couldn't find Neptune, but it looks like you caught a very rare "Lunar Flare". Congratulations!! :P

I got a few of those last night before I went to bed shaking my head at myself. there was a little voice on my shoulder having a quiet chuckle to itself

Oh neptunes there all right. Smack dead center.

I might be able to salvage "something" to use. I've done a very quick 1 minute process in PS to see if it's worth perservering with.

G'day Stuart. How have you been?

I remember that now  Boy there have been a lot of images under the bridge since then.

I'd forgotten that technique, it might be worth a try. I've been doing something similar, only using a dupicate image, median blurring it and applying it as a subtraction. But you link might be a better option. Thanks for that,
