Hi All, seeing was very poor, but as my imaging window on Jupiter shrinks to around 30min, I can't afford to be choosy;)

Also tried out for the first time my new Vixen DX 2x barlow. With the extension added in the imaging train from flip mirror and filter wheel I was finding the 2.5x powermate giving around 2.2x (too small) and my 4x powermate around 4.5x (too big for anything <7-8/10 seeing). The Vixen is giving me around 3 to 3.5x which fills the gap nicely and should get plenty of work as it seems a good all round compromise!

Anyway, here's the shot. No idea if it's best worst or whatever, but the planets edge was shimmying like a grass skirt on a Hula dancer in full swing. If I can get 4-5/10 this should work out nicely.

cheers,

Lester

Hi Robert,

Well all I can say in those conditions is well done, and like you said if conditions improve then the potential looks good. Like the colour variation, across the planet. Detail in the polar regions also.

Thanks Lester, finished processing all the avis from last night. Here's one that's a (slight) improvement over the first attached.

cheers,

Hey Robert

That is a great result for the poor seeing from last night - a big well done for deploying all your capture and processing skills to squeeze so much out of the 2/3 out of 10 skies. I had a bash at Uranus and moons instead, but the planet was bloated and wobbling like jelly, so the results weren't too good.

What is the longest exposure the DMK can take? I know the chip may not be as sensitive as a cooled ST7E chip, but it would be a really good project to try to get some colour in Uranus and Neptune, along with a moon or two, with your set up and skills.

The biggest challenge will probably be getting sufficiently good tracking to allow for several multi-second exposures without the image smearing too much.

Cheers

Dennis

Good to see you back on the job Rob. :) I thought we might have seen the last of Jupiter from you. Lets cross our fingers for just one final great night of seeing for you before the 30 min window closes.
