Having admitted that my biggest maxi data was shorter than Mike S' mini :D, I thought it was time to leave the Hyperstar in the cupboard and go long :P, in both focal and exposure length. It was a nice clear week in Sydney last week and despite the wind and crappy seeing I was out imaging M20. Definitely not the ideal conditions for my over sampling rig but who cares, it was clear during new moon week :sunny:.

I decided to image without the CLS LP filter this time and kept to the middle of the sky with confidence Pixinsights DBE tool would help me out, which it did.

Imaged with Canon 60Da. C11 Edge HD using .7x focal reducer (1960mm). Guided with TS OAG9 / Lodestar, PHD2 .
50 x 300 sec exposure ( I had more data but left out 2 hours from one night, the seeing was very poor compared to the other nights)

Processed with Pixinsight. With darks, flats and bias.

Smooth and with a very nice smokey look to the whole field. Great colour saturation and nice shaped stars. Well done.

Thanks Mike :) I ran Pixinsights "dark structure enhance" script with a mild setting.

Thanks Rick.

Wow! Thanks Kev , much appreciated. :)

Cheers Steven

Thanks very much Paul. :) Guiding is getting easier, I think PHD2 is more user friendly than PHD. Still a little room for improvement in RA but Im inspired by the progress.

Cheers

Thanks Justin! :)

I've got M8 on the way, just want to get some more data so will have wait for the Moon to swing around a bit more. Hope the weather stays clear :prey:

Cheers

Looking real sharp Rod, check the fine strings in the dark dust , , Top resolution with the C11 Edge, gotta be stoked with that

Thanks Bob :). I was quite happy with this one. Under normal seeing conditions at home I'm over sampling at 0.45"/pixel , just means I have to capture more data and be more selective when choosing which subs to use.

Cheers

Very nice Rod. You really caught the dust better than normal there. I didn't realise it extended that far.

Greg.

Thanks Greg! I wonder if that's a result of not using the CLS LP filter

Thanks very much H! I'm looking forward to seeing more of your deep space pics :)

Thanks Hugh! :) I think the amount of data really benefited the image, might make 4 hrs the minimum from now on.

Stars little muted but great shot. Excellent details and focus. Love it.

Thanks Marc! :) Glad you like it.

Ah yes, most stars particularly the three brightest ones are over exposed. I usually take some shorter exposures for the stars and add them to the main subs with the HDR composition tool in Pixinsight but forgot this time .

Rod,
That is one of the best M20's I've seen from a Canon camera.
You should be proud of it.
