Beached Whale 8th August 2006

I captured some images of the sperm whale that was beached this morning on Dixon Park Beach Newcastle Australia. The pictures were taken around 10am EST.
The images show how difficult the job of removing the huge carcass was and how the Newcastle Council workers had to resort to digging a hole and burying the whale at the 'beached' spot. There was a large crowd of spectators viewing the procedure which was akin to a funeral with a very solemn air.The pictures show how horrific the damages were the whale recieved which may have been caused by 'propellors'?

they buried it right there on teh beach? I'd have thought they'd have moved it somewhere where it cant be tampered with.... or something

I recall seeing a documentary linking the beaching phenomenon to Low Frequency SONAR testing by US military or something like that. Its as far as i know a still unsolved mystery. Its sad to see such beautiful wonderous creatures in such conditions. Perhaps they are trying to let us know that they are on strike against Japanese fisherman.
