Trying to get the best configuration to capture Halfa with Canon T3 not modified, I got this image with ISO 800 - 3 x 20 minutes . GSO 305 mm - Halfa filter 12 nm.

Only noise filter and curves were applied.

The third photo is a crop from original without any manipulation

I will test with subs of 25 minutes. I want more clean image and more details from the faint area ;)

Thats a pretty cool result considering you are pushing the Ha wavelength through the camera's filter that is doing it's level best to reject that wavelength. Remove the filter in the camera and you will get more Ha data in 15 minutes of integration than you have managed with 60 minutes here.

I am going to modufy one of my canon bodies (1000D) in order to achieve better spectral performance in the Ha region. I already have a 300D that is modified, but it doesn't have live view and as such is a PITA to use (frame and focus-wise).
All in all a very good result, but a lot of time required to build up the data you want.
Cheers,
Bruce.

Very nice Jorge!
You need to mod that cam! ;)

Here are my efforts with a 12nm Ha and also with a 12nm OIII using a little f6 70mm achromat and a 60Da, 10min subs:

Yeah, you're squeezing great results from that bog std cam. Rip it apart!

You should put your pics onto Flickr or astrobin, the 200kb limit doesn't do them justice I suspect, they look too fuzzy from here.

Yes, I know. The Halfa always is with large time of exposure. I reckon that the work and risk to only remove the infra-red filter is high. What I would like is to make a complete modification of the camera Canon.

remove the infra red filter
remove the bayer film (red, green, blue filter) to convert the sensor to mono
remove all plastic, accessories and metal not necessary to astrofoto. The goal is to get a camera with low weight. It will be a radical surgery ! To Let only the electronic cards and sensor. With a lightweight plastic box as body.

I have an old 350D Canon. It will be my dead body to this frankenstein transformation ! :face:

Thank you, Russell

Simon-MrB - yours photos are very beautitull and with a nice field. We can see very well the nebula.
