:(:mad2: f#@$%&$ :eyepop: Well last night i went to my dark site even though the sky was full of moonglow.

I was getting a few long exposures of the water and rocks, when a small swell turned into a bigger one.
Well you guessed it the tripod and the camera went for a swim in the Southern Ocean...........................?

As soon as i got back to the car i had the heater on full with the missus holding it for the drive home.

When i got home i removed the back cover and dried it as good as i could with a small hair dryer.
When inspecting it closer with a mag. glass, i found on chip/resistor/diode? has blown 4 feet off one end.

Is there anyone out there that could possibly know what this is, or point me in someones direction for repair:help:

Or does it look like i will be eating bread and butter sangers for the next 6 months to save up for the replacement

Looks like it might be a trip to the local Canon dealer for a little 'check-up'.. :poke:
That is only the physical damage. No telling what electrical damage it's done..
Good luck...:D.L.
ps. If dunked in salt water, the best thing to do with any electronic device, is immediately turn it off, remove the batteries n dunk in fresh water n leave it there till you can disassemble n dry it out..
ps. Found this place in Sydney (http://www.cameraservicecentre.powerup.com .au/) that only does servicing..HTH..:D
pps.Also in Melbourne..>

That's terrible news Trevor. Laurie is right on the money. The key thing with any electronics that gets wet is immediately remove the power source. Unless you can completely remove all sources of salt then you will have problems as the salt will retain moisture. If you didn't immediately remove the battery after retrieval from the salt water then it's highly likely that the unit will have constant problems in the event that you manage to get it repaired. Any voltage within the unit will start to etch cct board tracks away and conduct into components that would otherwise not be subject to high voltages and currents. FWIW I have worked on several PABX phone systems that have had rainwater (fresh not saltwater) ingress, not one of them was useable after the event. The first port of call, if you have cover, should be your insurance company.

I'm sorry to hear that Trevor.

Like Phil said try your insurance company since it was damaged by accident.

Ouch that is not good! I hope you got a good shot! Does the CF card still work?

I would absolutely hate that to happen to me. Which reminds me, I need to add the camera to the insurance list for items taken outside the house.

Not good news. Makes me feel sick in the stomach to think about it. Hope you can salvage the camera.

That is so bad, gee i would be peived off to, but once it has hit the salt water it unfortunatly wiil be history.

Even if it dose manage to work again it will just start to rust

:sad::sad::sad::sad:Oh well thanks for the responses, as i thought, you can't expect a digital cam, to do the doggy paddle and come out smiling:doh:

I am almost resolved to its permanent coma, spare parts stock.

It took a while for me to fumble around in the dark, to remove the battery, so most likely it has burnt out tracks and destroyed other components.

I will make some phone calls to see where to go from here.

I did salvage the cf card, not a drop of water, or in the battery compartment, most of the water entered through the remote terminal area.

This is the second last shot ever from my trusty old 350d, don't think i could sell for enough to replace the camera.

Was that $1000 Tony whoohoo all is not lost.

Oh that's right, what's that insurance thingy stuff:sadeyes:
