This may have been discussed elsewhere; I just heard about it on the news this morning :(:

Any takes on this from our IIS guys on the ground?

Yep, crazy. Of course if there is money to be made then nothing is safe.

I live directly across the road from 'Point Peron', a 'Protected' coastal reserve:

Ofcourse , the local council can only see its potential for more rate payers, so now it looks like it will be developed into canals and housing

When policy starts to be dictated by an idiot whos main claim to fame was being rich, and who won votes by promising things that would bankrupt the nation in under 5 minutes, what else do you expect?.. (that's the PUP party for the uninformed)

I am so not happy with the general level of apathy/stupidity that the vast majority of voters displayed a the last election ...

Yeah, laughable huh. abbot and his lapdog "little willy hodgman" want to remove 74000 hectares of World Heritage listed forest from the forestry peace deal they have been trying to dismantle for months. They claim 95% had been previously logged or severely degraded and it turns out their own advisors have come back and said less than 10% has been disturbed in any way. :eyepop:

The most amazing part of this is that even the logging industry has come out against touching this timber. They want the peace deal in place as much as everyone else except the ideology driven liberal scumbags owned by industry. :screwy:

Tasmanian Forest Industries association has written to the World Heritage committee advising them to refuse the governments request. The request is not likely to get up but, in the unlikely event that it does, this country will see an ecology mother of all wars and we will take both these corrupt and incompetent governments down... in the nicest possible way of course..... :D

This article should make you us all squirm

particularly this bit:

“The expert bodies that advise the World Heritage Committee have condemned the Australian government for failing to provide any evidence of their claim that large parts of the forest are degraded," Senator Milne said."

If, and it's a big "if", they did manage to get the areas de-listed, it's likely that there would be no market for the timber. Market forces caused the collapse of the forest industry, world markets don't want timber harvested by the trash and burn methods currently used here in Tasmania.

FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certification is necessary if you want to sell timber products overseas, FSC requires agreement between all parties on social, industry and environmental criteria, as well as true sustainability.

Australian FSC is in it's infant stage but should deliver on serious reform.

There needs to be serious restoration of the areas that have been degraded by Forestry Tasmania's practices, plantations are not forests , they're crops.

Soil erosion, chemical spraying and the destruction of forest biomass has caused serious land degeneration, soil erosion and water quality problems that have to be addressed.

World Heritage committee rejects Australias bid to de-list forests. SLAP IN THE FACE for Abbott. Tas DIS-honourable senator Colbeck's server crashed due to bandwidth overload.... You can still blast him via the Canberra office.

One for the forests :D:D:D:D

Having seen some of these forests, I wish we had an Impeachment process for these morons. The blatant LIES that have been spread by this government beggar belief.

Tony Abbott worked for us for one term, and we were pleased.
