End of Autumn Milky Way 20 panel mosaic

Taken at the end of Autumn. This is a 20 panel mosaic of the rising Milky Way from my dark site observatory.

There were a few burn offs occurring in the general area hence the orange/brown hue in the lower part of the sky.

Sony A7r, Nikon 14-24mm at 14mm F2.8, Novoflex adapter, 30 seconds ISO6400 on a tripod. The Sony seems to be even more sensitive to low light than my previous Nikon D800e which almost for sure would have shown the foreground as black. There was no moon.

The Sony certainly picked up a lot of light in the foreground, very sensitive indeed.

I like effect the orange glow has behind the low cloud in the south. Actually, I think the cloud balances the scene very nicely.

Really surprised when I read the 'no moon' bit having seen the picture first. Was going to compliment you on a nice Moonscape :-)

A really lovely panorama that is enhanced by the oranges.

I prefer a small amount of cloud for these shots really. They add some interest. I discovered that by accident one night when there was some cloud streaming in and it created a great looking motion effect in the panorama.



Yes ISO6400 is really quite bright with this camera. I suspect Nikon's ISO6400 is a little off. Fuji's is way off. High ISO performance is a sales criteria for a lot of buyers.




Yes it is surprising. The MW had enough light to light up the foreground.

Thanks Mike. I have a couple. Including some same scene shot with both Sony A7r and Fuji XT1 both using the same lens and the same settings.
