First try with film option. Film MOV converted to AVI - AS!2 - Registax 6.0 - Photoshop CS3 - original resolution, no dark, no flat, no bias, no noise reduction, 10 % from 920 frames.

I always feel very difficulty to eliminate the white border-line around Moon. I wasted much time working with mask in Registax - that isn't so easy and powerfull as in Photoshop - trying to reduce the action of wavelets in it.

The same, it is very difficult reduce the white saturation in some craters' wall. If you sharp the image, they blow up. Again, using the same mask resource from Registax 6.0 is very difficult get a good compatibility between the two tasks: reduce the border-line and the sun reflex in crater's wall.

And why don't talk about equilibrium of brightness side and darkness side of Moon. Visually it is evident and natural, but to see the details of surface this equilibrium is very important.

Nice work Jorge! I tried taking video capture of the moon too but I can't work out how to not make it look rubbish, also I find Registax very confusing. Sadly for now, I'm left taking stills.

I saw your photo before and I reckon it is well. And just because the border-line in your image I tried to reduce it in my photo. I got something, but if you look with attention at the top of Moon, you will perceive an area different near the border , with less sharp.

Registax 6.0 is very powerfull, but not friendly. And in my computer it is very slow to show the result of any manipulation.

I like very much the wavelets. But it is necessary to be careful in use it.

And there aren't tutorial or method to fix well the image. You must try, try, re-try, re-try and try again and again try again !

I think you've done very well Jorge. That has been my experience with Registax too. :(

Hi Jorge,

Looks pretty nice to me!

The top part of the moon looks like it hasn't been selected for the wavelet sharpening etc. remember to click the biggest processing area size (which i think you did) then click in the middle of the moon. It may have been off centre perhaps from being smaller with past planet work? thats my guess.

Maybe look at the program AstraImage that seems to be able to handle wavelets etc without slowing the computer down... Or save your wavelet settings in Registax. I have about 8 saved variation of wavelets settings and i choose which looks best, then export it to another program (astraimage of photoshop for further processing).

Cheers

yes, just because of mask. Adjust its size by pixel, feather and levels of histogram is very dificult to get compatibility to all areas you wish to protect or to act.
In Photoshop you can draw this mask, and with differente oppacity to different areas. This isn't the case in Registax.

Jorge, you've described all of the same issues I have when processing moon images in Registax.

It's a fine job.
