Olympus OM-D???

Anyone tried this Olympus camera for astronomy??
Just interested being an original OM-1 guy.....

G'Day Ken,

I had an OM-D E-M5 for about 8 months but lost it... long story:sadeyes::rolleyes:... but I now have an OM-D E-M1.

As an astro camera, its not in the same league as a full frame camera with nice big, deep pixels for low noise, but as a small, light general purpose camera with the occasional astro use, its great. There's lots of really good glass available in the m4/3 and 4/3 range, from Zuiko, Leica, SLR Magic, etc.

I'm happy with the occasional nightscape I've taken with it so far, but there is more noise than you'd get from a 6D or whatever.

As an original OM-1 guy myself, sticking the OM badge on it I thought was a bit ambitious, but Having had both models released so far, they both live up to the OM expectation IMHO.

What's the connection Ken? Is it the name, is the fact you have some lenses, or what?
If just lenses left over from the OM days, then any/most of the mirror-less stuff will play.
For casual astro I am using a Fuji X-Pro at present, pretty slick too.
Chris (Omaroo) was into the newer Oly stuff if I recall correctly, hopefully he will throw his opinions in.

Yes, I was reminiscing on the ol' days when the OM-1 was my weapon of choice.
I was hoping (sigh!) that Olympus maybe had done it again and could still be the weapon of choice.....

LOL, you must be getting old then Ken, I certainly am, I recall selling the first OM1's new in the early 70's.
There's no reason the new Oly's won't do what you want, but then again, there are plenty of others that will do the same, or possibly better.
We're unfortunately over-saturated with choice.
