I just got given a pair of Nikon 7x50 binoculars for my birthday (which was a week or 2 ago) !

I haven't had any binoculars for a couple of years. The last pair I used to have I borrwed, and were an old pair of pentax 8x42 with a huge 8.something degree FOV. They were very nice but colour and weight wasn't their strong point.

The Nikon's are only 6.4 degree FOV but gez the image is bright, crisp, easy to focus, and perfectly colour corrected. Very light to easily hold.

Bright objects (lights, stars , whatever) have no colour distortion I could see.. the whole image is a nice correct colour, and bright.

I could easily find and see 47 tuc and the jewel box, very obvious even with the bright moon, and couldn't see them naked eye. The moon looked good too.

I will have to get used to the narrower FOV, but the brighter image is handy.

Roger.

Good to hear Roger

I'm currently shopping around for my first pair of astro binos so it's good to see people commenting on what they are using:thumbsup:

Nikons generally have a very good name, Is yours the 'Action' or the 'Extreme' version ? The Extremes get excellent reviews. I have briefly used the less expensive 'Actions' and was impressed with there ergonomics, lack of CA and flat fied. Edge distortion appeared about 85-90 % out. They would be among my first pick with 50mm binos and they are well priced for the quality.
