Hi everyone,

After life with the old 4.5" Tasco rflector of over 40 years and its shortcomings an Orion XX14g is on the way....

The 2 Orion eyepieces come standard with the scope.

All the accessories coming with it are listed below but my big question is is there a need for a paracorr due to the scope having 1650mm focal length and a focal ratio of 4.6.

I have fairly dark skies (when its stops raining and clouding over) but will at times be going to dark sky sites, star parties etc....

Orion XX14g
Case & Shroud Set, 12v DC + Charger, AC Power Adapter, Stellar Seat, Glatter 2" Collimater, Glatter 2" tuBlug,
Orion Deepview 35mm 52deg AFOV
Orion Illuminated Crosshair plossl 12.5mm 40deg AFOV
TeleVue Panoptic 24mm 68deg AFOV
TeleVue Delos 8mm 72deg AFOV
ND96 Moon Filter (2"), ND96 Moon Filter1.25", Bintel OIII Filter (1.25")
Mallincam Pro Dob II video camera with 8" monitor

Anyones thoughts would be appreciated

Thanks skull

Scott you will have to bring it out to the Bretti dark Site the next time we go. Talk to Rick he has an older version of the Orion, and runs a Parracor on it. I had a look through it just a couple of days ago at Bretti and it does seem to make a difference on the edges of the wide FOV EPs. Rick swears by it.

Scott welcome to IIS. I used the same Tasco reflector to observe Halley's Comet. It gave me years of fun. You will love your XX14g though. You don't need a Paracorr, but they are nice to have. Especially if you venture into wider field eyepieces. One thing for sure, if you start using one, you will never be able to observe without it again. Having nice tight stars across the field does look much better.

Bretti is a camping reserve just north of Gloucester. So only a little over 2 hours drive for you. The sky there is very dark, which is good for chasing faint fuzzies.
