How to attach Orion AutoGuider to 9x50 FinderScope?

how would i attach an Orion StarShoot AutoGuider to a SkyWatcher 9x50 Finderscope?! nothing seems to work.. :confused: i posted the same question here at http://stargazerslounge.com/topic/217423-how-to-attach-autoguider-to-finderscope/?p=2332910 and looks like i need an adapter which i cant find at www.bintel.com.au or www.myastroshop.com.au

I would think that you need a guidescope that accepts the 1.25" nose of the camera, or use a small refractor that accepts EPs. Orion makes a 50mm Mini Guidescope that is a good match for that camera (Bintel sell them).

You want an adapter from Modern Astronomy in the UK - that's the only place I've found that sells them:

In the drop down list, select the "T Thread Adapter for Straight Thru Adapters" under the "Adapters for SkyWatcher 50mm Finders" section near the top.

Your SSAG (identical to a QHY5 camera) has a T thread that the 1.25" nosepiece screws into - the nosepiece screws out easily.

I used to have such an adapter for my QHY5 but sold both a while ago.

@Astro_Bot yeah, it seems from other responses that's the only place I can get it from. Also it works to be $50AUD not inclusing P&H. better off getting Orion 50mm Mini at the least

Rasta I did this over the weekend, cut down a GSO 2" to T2 adapter but I did need to turn the diameter down in the lathe which would make it a difficult job without a lathe. I also needed to remove the front lock ring from the finder to get focus. In hindsight I'm wishing I'd threaded the adapter to let it screw into the finder rather than push in.

Best guiding experience I've had I think and a far lighter rig than the much larger guide scope and fittings. Working on M104, Jaws and other nearby stars were clearly visible in PHD.

I've not got my head around how much difference the wider field will have on guiding accuracy but it certainly made finding a guide star far simpler and I didn't experience any of the loss of guide star issues that normally bug me.

I am in the process of converting a 9x50 SW finder to take a cam to see if I can get it to guide.
I will get a local engineer to make an adapter that sites the exit aperture and the chip parallel to each other. Talk to the engineer and you will discover that he will have ideas that can improve the entire setup.
I have found it a very cheap way to get odd fixes for my gear.

I am currently attempting this exact project. About to visit the local plumbing store with a 8x50mm finderscope to see if I can get a adapter with a 2" or 1.25" outlet.
Will update if I get lucky.

Hi, I made mine by chopping a few bits and pieces that I had laying around. It's easy enough to buy the adapters, but more fun I reckon having a play yourself :thumbsup:
