Just wondering if there is any interest in a Melbourne get together at some stage in the future. I know the Gorge car park in Mernda has been used - is this place appropriate re. safety etc..? Others?

Perhaps we could organise a Heathcote trip outside of the ASV section gatherings - kind of like an IIS Heathcote gathering

Maybe I could start an unofficial Heathcote thread for all those ASV members who like to get up there outside of the section meetings...

Any interest? I've got a heap of new EPs to try out...

John,

I'm definitely interested, but the planets need to align if I'm going to get there.

That is ..... a good clear night, little to no moon and SWMBO grants a leave pass

Eagerly awaiting .....

Paul

Hi Paul,

I've had PMs from people in the same situation. I have a 2 year old and a 6 year old and we only have one car so the planets need to align for us too. Still, I am interested even if it's only 2-3 times a year. I'll post more when we get some numbers together and see if we can co-ordinate some dates for the future.

Hi John

Another reasonable site out this way is the car park and field at the Plenty Gorge Park picnic ground in Yarrambat Park in Yan Yean Road. The Melways Map reference for the park is 184 G3. There are public toilets, electric BBQ and fresh water available. I've run a couple of successful school astronomy club viewing nights out there

Me and a friend would certainly be intrested thought the lack of mains power might be a limiting option.

There are mains at heathcote. I'm not sure about the Gorge carpark - it looks dreadfully close to the Doreen housing estate:(

Hi John, I'd interested later on in the year, however like yourself with kids and shiftwork thrown into the mix, I'm struggling to even get a free weekend to get to Heathcote! But keep me in mind I'm in the northern 'burbs also.

Good Stephen thanks I'm getting a list of names together with a view to sending out emails for meet ups. Obviously with regard to Heathcote there will be a requirement for ASV Membership. Would be great to do a Heathcote meet up / BBQ a few times a year where time allows.

Cheers,

John.

I would love to stick my hand up (I am an asv member) but I have been ridiculously time poor of late, it is a couple of months since my scope saw the sky.

Yep that would be good. I'm an ASV member so no dramas there

Looking at becoming an ASV member, and would like to head out to Heathcote and meet up with a few people and get some help setting up my scopes etc.

I think I would end up going up and camping at least once a month!

I may join you Ash. It's good we're growing a list of interested people and I will do mail outs looking at interest over the coming weeks. Cheers, John.
