then waiting for your first scope. I have a LX90 LNT on order, originally was supposed to be in first week of march. So i figure i'll go pick it up on the 19th, that gives em heaps of time to get it set up etc. And i find out today it hasn't even left the US yet let alone in the shop.
Also went to a viewing night on friday and had a look thru a LX90, was so excited to be getting it this weekend as its a long weekend here in canberra, and then have the easter weekend to use it. Now i won't even have it by then.
NOT HAPPY JAN.

Hi Rohan,
Quick, find out who owns the one you looked through at the viewing night and ask if you can go to their place tonight.
You may get withdrawal symptoms if you don't, coz this hobby is ADDICTIVE!!!
Hope yours arrives soon.

Sorry to hear Rohan.......waiting is something I have not perfected......or intend too....lol
i can think of something worse...
one forum member (who i shall not name) ordered a big Dob kit from the good olde U.S of A... it arrived with metal posts bent and parts broken if i remember properly, along with a plethora of other problems. and support from the company that sent it doesnt sound that great...
but yeah, waiting is bloody awful! :(
got binoculars or something to keep you going?

Luxury,
I can only dream of waiting for such a telescope to arrive.. But I dream on regardless. The wait will no doubt be worth the hassle.

Yeah, I like the 20D; big learning curve, not complicated but so much to remember. I would probably have bought the 350D but they only announced it a couple of weeks after I bought mine. The difference in price would have just about upgraded me to an LX200 or paid for a better lens. Unfortunately I didn't get ministerial approval for extra eyepieces, but they will come in time. By now you probably have yours. Good luck tonight, hope the weather holds. :prey2: :rain:

relativly clear skys here in canberra at the moment. Hoping it'll stay that way so i can give this beauty a run tonight. Will try snap some images as well to share with you.
PS: i just picked up the April edition of PC World, has free full version of Starry Night Enthusiast 4.5 in it. So far a few nice program and helping me plan my night :D
while we are on the topic of waiting...........
waiting for an EP atm... not fun with the clear skies that have suddenly appeared :(

well the night has come and the clouds cleared. Had every thing out at sunset just waiting for darkness. Did a 2 star align and worked well, everything spot on for a while. Was looking about orion and decided to head else where, unfortunatly the GOTO didn't agree and everything i told it to go to it thought it was already at. Dunno why, so i re aligned and continued on.
Saturn was very nice, otherwise not much else. Full moon didnt help at all. My backyard is also a astronomers worst nightmare so could only look at things high up. Then was heading back to saturn when i heard a crack!!!!!! the power cable had gotten wrapped around the stand and eventually snapped off in the AC port. Bit of a downer. Sound be able to rewire it tomorrow.
Might head off to some darker skies tomorrow, but then again it'll be full moon so viewing will be limited.

Good to hear you've finally got the LX90 Rohan, bit of a worry with the GoTo, hopefully it was your error not the controller. How much detail could you see on Saturn??

G'day Rohan,
Congrats on your LX90 it won't dissapoint you.
A couple of helpful hints. Make sure you read the manual.
For accurate GoTo's Calibrate Motors then Train Drive, in that order is important.
Turn on Cord Wrap and you won't hear crack!!!!!! ever again.
Also go to Weasners Mighty ETX Site it is all relevant to the LX90.

thanks xstream. Not a cloud in the sky at the moment, just about to set up for another nights viewing. Quite windy thou so that might cause some problems.
Will see how the GOTOs are tonight.

Hi Rohan, some of your experiences sound remarkably similar to mine!
My scope, too was dreadfully late. In fact, I was so P$#@ed off about it, I cancelled the deal ( was told by a supplier who shall remain nameless that the scope had not even left the US 5 weeks after placing order), so instead I called up Bintel the next day, ordered an LX200, and it was delivered to my door within 2 working days!
On one of the first night's viewing, I crunched off the end of the microfocuser cord. Bugger! It had wrapped itself around the scope somehow. Had to go to Bintel rather sheepishly for fix-up. They did it without charge, saying rather kindly it was part of the warranty@!
Keep us posted with how things are going. I am now about 2 months in, and absolutely loving it.

Turned out to be a shockin night. as the sun went down the clouds rolled in. Got a quick view of saturn but then nothing besides moon and jupiter and that was only a small opening in the clouds.
Tried some photogrpahy but didn't even get close to good results. Tried both prime & afocal and had no luck with either, not sure if its my camera or me holding the camera. Niether would even get close to respectable image, if anything at all. Not sure whether to invest in equipment to hold to camera on as i'm unsure if it will be able to produce anything half decent. camera is a fuji finepix 3800. Anyway 1 shot i did get was off my rig so here it is.
