Hi all,

well all previous attempts at imaging mars had resulted in bright blob pulsating violently. so much so that i'd given up on ever getting anything half decent.

set up the scope lastnight in prep for tonight's saturn-moon occultation (clouds predicted so wanted to be aligned) and decided to swing over to mars to check it out. anyway this was the result.

i am fairly stoked actually  12" goto SW, 5x powermate, 2x barlow, canon 600d (full spectrum) with UV/IV clip in, 3x digital zoom, 30fps. i've got a few other videos to process including a couple without the barlow which were probably more suited to the conditions.

will have to reprocess at some stage i really don't know how you guys do it, wavelets / sharpening without over doing it but getting a sharp result. i'd love for someone to have a go at the raw stack file.

registax 6, best 15% frames from ~3.25minute vid, rgb balance, rgb align (handy little function!), wavelets, and photoshop, levels, contrast etc. this is cropped.

cheers

cheers Peter, actually, Mars seems to be quite ideal in atleast one way from a DSLR you don't need a high ISO to image at a big scale so greatly cuts down the noise. I think with the 5x powermate, 2x barlow and 3x digital zoom i used ISO 200 for Mars whereas for Saturn it was either ISO 3200 or 6400.

cheers

That is exactly how I saw Mars visually in my 4"ED refractor at 168x the same night, so nice photo…the talk of ISO's etc is double Dutch to me though! Understood the 2x Barlow bit :D
Thanks Rusty for posting the pic.
