That last one looks like it has potential ving. Try running it through Registax and then using the rgbshift function on the wavelets page.
Do you save individual bmps or do you stack as you go?

Hi Vingy,
What a great start, I been waiting for you to post a few Joops since you beat me in that competition. I need to learn your trade to improve my lack of skills.
Keep em comming.
i usually stack bmps that i have put thru ppm center (or whatever its called) but didnt for that one. i never have much luck with rgb shift so i hit the estimate button... whats the purpose of the rgb shift anyhow?
oh, btw the seeing was crappy (2-3/10 at the most).

Don't rub it in. You are that humble that you don't even know that you did it. You have obviously got a better attitude than I have about it. My pride took a real kick in the guts (and needed it too).
Ving.....you angel.

After running them through ppmcenter/PCFE, drop it into Registax, use the 128 alignment box (the red spot is clear enough so use that to align on). Btw how many frames do you have? Have you read Mikes "How to" for Registax?
Anyway, when you get to the waveletting stage, wavelet gently (I usually use only 4, 5, and 6 sliders with 6 being the heaviest and then reducing by half for the next slider). Select RGBshift and click estimate. If there is still a strong colour cast to the limbs use the Lt, Rt, Up, Dn buttons to shift the colour around. Doing it manually sometimes is the only way to get it to work as it should.
lol, lestery you are a funny fella :P
this one any better? still looks a bit oniony in the top right :(

Hi Ving,
that last one is a big improvement. If the seeing was awful you won't be able to do miracles, but it is good practice.
it's only about 80 frames. and my collimation was a little roughly done.
Good stuff Ving:thumbsup:
Was it quite windy when you were capturing these shots?
I was out the other night in windy conditions also taking Jupiter shots and all the resulting images I processed ended up with onions.
As far as I can tell windy conditions almost always produces onions.
I think it varies the quality of the frames by such a degree, particularly towards the planet's limb, that when stacked they produce onions.
It's just my opinion, but onions are the result of exposure variation to which windy conditions can certainly make a significant contribution.

I hope you don't mind ving but I had a bit of a play with the red edged Jup at the top. Not much can be done with the jpeg as far as waveletting goes but, judicious use of RGBshift and hue and saturation helps a bit.
You should be able to do more with the originals, especially playing with them in Photoshop, or going an rgb split on them, processing them as seperate channels and recombining them, either in AstraImage or Photoshop
come to think of it it was rather gusty...

What is your frame capture rate?
i had it on 15 but i hear that the lpi is speed limited to 2 or something... is that right?

Don't know  Don't use it. Though you should be able to get at least 5 frames per second. Hang on I'll check it out :)
say 3fps on k3's site... thats at 640x480

It doesn't do a real bang up job in Envisage, but I've just had a play with it in virtual dub. Not bad. It captured naturally at 3fps and I reacon with a bit of tweeking I could get it to about 10 fps. It might take a while to get used to the menu setup but it certainly looks like its the go. Plus you can change the default video size up to 640x480 which is a bonus.

I might have a bit of a play with it one night and see how it goes.

anyhow thnx paul :)

Have a look at it ving, you might find it easier to use than Envisage. Give me a yell if you want a hand finding the various settings etc. K3 will probably do just as good a job, though VD is fully free :D and seems to have more options for video capture.

Great work capturing Jupiter with the LPI, ving! :D
I don't know how succesful you'll be getting the LPI framerate above 3, Paul. The LPI does not compress the image on the way down the cable like the ToUCam. You get a full 900k file 'down the pipe'. The fastest frame rate I have ever managed is 2.3 fps. If you manage to do better, though, I will be very interested! :)

Hmmmmm. :confuse3: I did manage to get 2.7 before but I'll keep at it.
Changing the exposure rate from 50ms seems to be a bit of a challenge as well.
already have veedub... havent used it yet tho... will give it a try :)

To get it to open the video capture window go to File->Capture Avi.
