I'm looking for sheets of Rubylith or similar red transparent material to shield a 15" laptop and a 10" tablet screen.

Please PM if you've got some you want to part with. I'd also be grateful for information about possible sources (in AU) for such material.

Cheers
Steffen.

Hi Steffen, I haven't seen this stuff since I was a kid and dad ran a screen printing business!
I have never heard of this company before, but a quick Google search came up with this: http://www.artmartaust.com.au/ruby.html

Another option could be transparent red acrylic sheet, you should be able to get this at any decent plastics wholesaler.

A last resort might be transparent red 'Solarfilm' or equivalent brand covering film for model aircraft.

Have you thought of using lighting gels?

Get in touch with your nearest concert
and theatre lighting hire place and they
will be able to tell you where to get hold
of it locally.

Thanks Simon, I did not find that site, your google-fu is better than mine :)

Brian, I would need something (for the tablet at least) that doesn't interfere with the touchscreen. How thick are those gels?

Cheers
Steffen.

I was also looking for an easily fitted/removed 'hardware solution' for my iPad and touchscreen notebook - does Rubylith transmit touch okay?

If you can get hold of Paul [1ponders], he should be able to advise where to get a sheet of red gel. Paul bought me a sheet a few years ago for Astrofest, it works beautifully with ipad.

I bought a 1m x 1m roll of red gel off eBay recently for only a few dollars including postage, it's been great for everything I needed it for... Search 'Red lighting gel' there's several on there

It can even be used on touch-controlled devices if fitted snugly.. I've got a leather case for my phone, so I cut a piece of the gel to size, removed my phone cover, placed it over the screen and put the cover back on, works perfectly...

Steffen,
Can't say exactly how thick the gel is, been a few
years since I handled any but from memory no
more than a millimeter.

Don't know how it would go with touch screens I'm afraid.

I bought some from here: www.fifalite.com, email: lights@fifalite.com
Ask for red spotlight gel sheets. A "half sheet" 50cm x 60cm was $10 when I ordered some in Feb 2014.

They will post.

Did you try it with touchscreens Paul? Does it just peel off for storage, and then can be re-applied as many times as you wish?

It doesn't work with touch screens. For my laptop, I folded it around the screen and then used some light cardboard to make a back, so it slides down over the screen. It doesn't stick to the screen.

Thanks Paul, something new to check out.
