New CCD design for ICX285AL and ICX412AQ

I just finished the new design for sony's smaller ccd chip.Like ICX285AL(2/3inch Exview high senstivity) and ICX412(3.3MP COLOR,1/1.8INCH high sensitivity)

The camera shell is just taking from the factory so there is no surface processing this time.
The size is 80*80*34mm.

The links dont appear to work. Can the QHy2 be used for Imaging or it for guiding only.

Will there be a firewire 1394 version of these cameras. USB 2.0 seems a bit slow for these cameras.

Fahim, USB2 is 400mbps, so is most firewire. Yes you can get firewire at 800mbps, but the device and computer has to support it.

Mike I know the spec is 400 but Firewire under most test more easily achieves and sustains these speeds. I have USB/Firewire Nexstar case for a DVD burner, and I know how many toasters I have cooked using USB compared to using firewire on the same media.

I just had a thought most miniDV's use Firewire I wonder if you could capture live using the firewire, without any compression.

Yeah the links arn't working.

I doubt you would even notice the difference between Firewire and usb 2 for these small files.

USB 2 would only take a couple of seconds to download the image.?????
Even though USB 2 is rated higher then Firewire in bandwidth the way information is passed is quicker via Firewire but only around 30% faster.

As I understood it when first reading about fire wire in IEEE magazine long back it has benefits in that the devices have more intelligence built in them to negotiate with each other to decide on a master controller. USB on the other hand offloads this work to the PC.
I must admit though that The QHY cameras produce very good results regardless of the interface they use. So the proof is in the pudding i guess. I had assumed video data maybe more BW hungry. But then I dont understand fully how the single shots work, perhaps they have some internal storage??

Sorry Iceman but USB2.0 is not always USB2.0. According to the specs USB 2.0 even should be 480megabit per second.

I have mad a very bad experience by thinking that USB2.0 is really fast.

I would recommend you take a look at this page

they are in Australia and you buy a USB 2.0 Loopback port testing device and just for fun test your USB 2.0 ports. You will be amazed in the differences this ports can have.

I once bought a Hewlett Packard desktop PC and I was wondering why my Lumenera Infinity 2-2 did not deliver me the 12frames per second as advertised. On another PC it did.

The HP had a transfer speed of 133mbps, they exchanged the PC and OH wonder the second one had 33mbps. After they did not accept anymore claims I just cannibalized the HP and put a new Motherboord in it and there I got 360mbps and yes just because of HP now I have such a USB 2.0 Loopback hardware tester.

If you are interested I can send you a few screenshots of some protocols of a few ports I have tested which claim to be USB 2.0.

I dont think Mike or myself are disputing the speed of firewire over USB 2 more the relative need for firewire and also the hardware needed for such a small benifit to this camera.

If you were sending 50mb files yes go for it but the files from this camera are relatively small so justifying firewire for benifit's your not going to see seems pointless to me.

Tony's right, the size of the files a small in comparison to streaming hi Q video. The 6 Mpixel camera will give you around 12.5 Mbytes with color encoded (Looks black & white) FIT format. This takes between 3 to 10 seconds depending on which download mode you use.
Still, you dont whopping speed to image. Its Hard drive space and Memory/Proceesing power.
