Skies cleared on Sunday night so I took off late for a drive over the Blue Mountains. Found myself heading towards Oberon via the Jenolan Caves, before turning around and heading home just before Monday morning peak hour.

Thanks for looking :)

Cheers Mike! I tried once  I got as far as bending me knees to pick the 100kg ball, and that was as far as I got! That's me on the left :D

He he very cool  when was that taken..? Got any more photos from the day? Love to see'em if you do :)

Here's me at Darling Harbour carrying 220kg 25m (http://www.pbase.com/strongmanmike2002/image/68903842/original) in nearly the exact same spot :P

My shoulder popped out again just looking at that Mike. Did any little Italian eggs pop out too? :) :P

Great shot Carlos (the one tree one).

No but after 25m it had grazzed and bruised the hell out'a my upper inner thigh. The organisers had the top edges of the block trimmed and sanded down for subsequent comps, thank god

Your wish is my command ;)

It must have been taken around 88 or 89 I remember Darling Harbour just being built. (just noticed the date stamp 30/06/89)

This is Iņaki Gil, in his day he was one of the strongest Basque men around. You can see him here lifting a 100kg ball with one hand, afterwards he spun it around his neck several times (using both hands).

Do you recognise the big guy on the left of the last photo? David Foster Aussie Wood Chopping Champion, not any more but he was unbeatable for a very long time.

Enjoy :)

One of your best composition Carlos. Very clever.

Awesome! that style of lifting is so raw and old style, love it, always wondered why a big rectangular Basque style stone never made an appearence in strongman comps actually, would have been a cool event. We had the Icelandic Husafel Stone and the McGlashen stones I guess..?

Funny about the one arm lift there, I had a round 80kg warm up stone (http://www.pbase.com/strongmanmike2002/image/70066041/original) that I could lift with one arm and for a bit of show off I did an impromtu display of it at my sons school fete in 2000, I could aaalmost press it overhead with one arm, just required to much balance to lock it out without it falling on my head ..never tried rolling at around the back of my head though :eyepop:

And yes, I recognise Dave Foster. Atually back in 1998 I was at a strongman comp in Tasmania being held as part of the Latrobe Gift and we were the joint entertainment for the day along with the axemen (aaamazing stuff they do!) and Dave was there. The organisers of the event decided it would be a good exhibition to have one of the strongman competitors take on Dave in an improptu axe hold event..well having the Australan record at the time in such an event I was the logical choice. We were to see who could hold an axe at arms length for the longest time. I was a bit nervous because Dave was so big and well he is an axemen efter all huh??...I decided that well if he did beat me well he is the World Champion with an axe and if I won well how cool would that be :D...so I agreed. The orgaisers then spent an hour trying to find him with no luck, I was ok with that as I was pretty focused on the upcoming events I was already going to have to do as part of the comp. Later I was told that the organisers couldn't find him because he was in a sponsors tent drinking beer and he was...smashed  Would have been an interesting contest......I did win the strongman comp though :D

Thanks so much for showing those photos and in your image thread, great stuff :)

Hi Carlos
It was great to meet you (and your band of merry imagers) at the SPSP. As mentioned I will keep an eye out for your images - I do like this one!
Good luck with all future endeavours.

Cheers Mike anytime! Also it was great meeting you in person at the SPSP. Your Emergency/Evac siren impersonation was very convincing as well as ear piercing! Got me out of bed, that' for sure!

Cheers Graham!

I'm glad to hear Foster still a celeb, he really is a walking, breathing Australian Icon.

Cheers Carl :)

Hey Matt likewise! Now I realise who you are, you did mention you liked the Sun I just couldn't put two and two together, I've seen lots of your captures and they're always great! Ah yes my very merry men, all set up and no battery to power up their mount (a bunch of merry clowns). Thankfully Marco came to the rescue with a spare 100ohm battery, what an unexpected surprise! :)

Meanwhile, back to the picture ..... "Blue Monday' very 'arty'. I like it. I could see that on a vertical canvas on a wall, at least 2 meters high.
Yeah, I like it ..

Eskerrik asko Marc! :)

It may go back to the drawing board to tone down some of that blue but overall I am very happy with it too.
